Why are Brendan & Silvana doing the indepen-dance?

Silvana is working out if ‘international traveller’ can qualify as a full time occupation and in the meantime working in the high octane world of advertising for Trade Me. Having travelled across Europe and South America together Silvana and her partner Brendan are habitual jet-setters, with their next trip scheduled later this year.

Silvana said, “We try and take a big trip every couple of years and this year we’re combining the Coachella festival with visits to San Francisco, Las Vegas and LA. We would love to travel full-time, who wouldn’t? But we’ve got our house and we want to make it home.”

The couple, who have been together nine years, still haven’t lost their travel bug despite buying their first home and love a spot of camping, especially along the coast where Brendan can lap up the waves. In between trips, the couple are planning their future, which involves looking for a renovation project or buying a bed and breakfast.

With Brendan’s skills as a ‘jack of all trades’ working in TV with props and design and Silvana’s interests in interior design, she is hoping their complimentary skills will help them build a sustainable future together; whether this be developing a shipping container into a living space or something more ambitious, the couple knew New Zealand had everything they wanted from life.

“We’re being sensible and looking at where we can invest our earnings while doing the things we love. It’s important to look down the track and while we were in London we loved it, but we came back here for a wedding and knew we wanted to settle in New Zealand. It makes sense to consider our future here,” she said.

True to their word, the couple have taken their savings and their next project is creating the home of their dreams in Auckland, nearby friends and family.

“It’s pretty amazing and we’re excited about the future.”
