Local Hero 2014 - Cecilia Sullivan-Grant (Mosgiel)

NZOTY2014 - Cecilia Sullivan-Grant

Change starts at a local level, as evidenced by our Local Hero 2014, Cecilia Sullivan-Grant of Mosgiel.

Cecilia was one of the first members of the Dunedin Mayor's task force for jobs. She led the way in developing a tracking program for school-leavers, a guide to apprenticeships and the graduation ceremonies for apprentices. Cecilia also developed the "Earn and Learn" campaign to promote apprenticeships at a time when they had almost disappeared.

Cecilia has worked for more than 13 years as a self-employment advisor to people with disabilities so severe that mainstream work was not an option. Cecilia helped manage a portfolio of 40 successful small businesses. She also worked as an employment facilitator, helping disadvantaged people to find and stay in meaningful employment.

Cecilia's passion for creating and providing tools for people to live, grow and work successful lives in an inspiration to all Kiwis.
